What format should audio files have for a mix-down, and what format do I get the mix back?
If you send single audio tracks, the format should be AIF or WAV, in 16 or 24bit format, 44.1 KHz, or 48 KHz. You also can send us entire (ptf) ProTools Sessions. You will get your mixdown in the format you wish. Primarily we provide the original mix in 44.1 KHz 16 Bit. 48 KHz 24 Bit available by request at no additional cost.
If sending WAV files export at 44.1k or 48k – No dither
Can you do mixing on material mixed in a different program or mixed on a portable studio?
Yes. What you would need to do is you create a “tracked-out WAV” mixdown for us. This means you mixdown each separate track independently, one at a time from your mixes, so that we have all the elements needed to work on your mixes here in one of the mixing platforms that we utilize. It’s also a good idea to include a whole song rough mixdown as reference so we can verify that everything is in place and where it should be if submiting WAV’s.
DO YOU TAKE ON ALL PROJECTS THAT COME TO YOU?
No. Absolutely not. If I feel for any reason that I am not up to the job, I will inform you immediately, and refund your money 100%. I do not run a a magic wand factory here. If the quality of your source tracks/recording is acoustically horrible/distorted/badly-recorded I will return your money and decline the project immediately.
What is a mix revision?
A mix revision is a number of minor tweaks to levels or specific details within the mix, e.g. “more flange on guitars, less reverb, pan the adlibs” or “add more compression to the vocals, the main vocal is too load”.
What’s the difference between mixing and mastering?
Mixing is where you have the ability to manipulate the separate recorded parts in a song. Usually ranging from 16 to over 192 tracks possibly. Mixing is blending the separate recorded elements together to create a single stereo file, or a “mixdown”. mastering is where you only have access to process that final stereo mixdown overall.
